Number of Unknown Viruses Detected

Unknown viruses are malicious executable files that have been identified proactively by the ThreatSeeker Network on the Web before an end user has been compromised. Traditional AV companies that lack the proactive scanning ability of the ThreatSeeker Network are unable to provide protection for these attacks until a customer detects and reports a successful compromise.

New Unknown Viruses are scanned by a battery of traditional AV engines by Websense Security Labs as part of the process of threat identification. The chart below represents the number of unknown attacks missed by the top five AV vendors the day the attacks were detected and updated by the Websense ThreatSeeker Network.
